The advantage over classical strategies is evident at low signal brightness, a feature which could make the protocol an ideal prototype for non-invasive scanning or low-power short-range radar. Here we experimentally investigate the concept of quantum illumination at microwave frequencies, by generating entangled fields using a Josephson parametric converter which are then amplified to illuminate a room-temperature object at a distance of 1 meter. Starting from experimental data, we simulate the case of perfect idler photon number detection, which results in a quantum advantage compared to the relative classical benchmark. Our results highlight the opportunities and challenges on the way towards a first room-temperature application of microwave quantum circuits."}],"date_created":"2021-01-10T23:01:17Z","publication_identifier":{"isbn":["9781728189420"],"issn":["1097-5659"]},"month":"09","ec_funded":1,"year":"2020","intvolume":" 2020","date_published":"2020-09-21T00:00:00Z","citation":{"mla":"Barzanjeh, Shabir, et al. “Microwave Quantum Illumination with a Digital Phase-Conjugated Receiver.” IEEE National Radar Conference - Proceedings, vol. 2020, no. 9, 9266397, IEEE, 2020, doi:10.1109/RadarConf2043947.2020.9266397.","short":"S.
