--- res: bibo_abstract: - The writhing number measures the global geometry of a closed space curve or knot. We show that this measure is related to the average winding number of its Gauss map. Using this relationship, we give an algorithm for computing the writhing number for a polygonal knot with n edges in time roughly proportional to n(1.6). We also implement a different, simple algorithm and provide experimental evidence for its practical efficiency.@eng bibo_authorlist: - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Pankaj foaf_name: Agarwal, Pankaj foaf_surname: Agarwal - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Herbert foaf_name: Edelsbrunner, Herbert foaf_surname: Edelsbrunner foaf_workInfoHomepage: http://www.librecat.org/personId=3FB178DA-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87 orcid: 0000-0002-9823-6833 - foaf_Person: foaf_givenName: Yusu foaf_name: Wang, Yusu foaf_surname: Wang dct_date: 2002^xs_gYear dct_isPartOf: - http://id.crossref.org/issn/9780898715132 dct_language: eng dct_publisher: SIAM@ dct_title: Computing the writhing number of a polygonal knot@ ...
